Dr Viv Ashley, 18th July 1969 - 31st October 2024. This site is a tribute to Viv who died peacefully at St Helena Hospice on Thursday 31st October.
She was a wonderful partner and an inspirational friend, colleague, sister, aunt, patient, advocate and so much more. She was brilliant, witty and full of compassion and kindness.
Throughout 12 years of treatment for cancer she showed bravery, positivity and unending grace and humour. She never stopped fighting to live. Her mission was to live well with cancer and she really did. I’m so, so proud of her.
In sharing our last goodbyes and memories with her and each other, we will make sure her send-off reflects the brilliant woman she was. We love her.
Funeral service is at St Georges, Great Bromley on Monday 2nd December 2024 at 1.30 pm. Please be seated by 1.20pm.
The service will be recorded and uploaded after the event. We will try to provide a live stream too. The (Zoom) link will be added here beforehand.
Viv's didn't specify a dress code. She wouldn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or to spend money on new outfits.
There will be hymns. All Things Bright and Beautiful, Jerusalem and Great is Thy Faithfulness. This is a heads up so everyone can familiarise themselves with the tunes.
(There will be a small private burial invited guests only.)
Everyone is invited to the Alma for the wake. There will be refreshments, a piper, a recording of Viv talking about her life and even a quiz. Viv made plans for her funeral 'I keep making notes when I think about the things that I might like to be included in the funeral service... it's quite annoying that I can't be there because it's going to be good. I think it's going to be a good time had by all, and I can't be there.' Please do come along- it's OK to miss the service and just come to the wake later if you are working in the day.
Rachel
Viv asked for family flowers only, donations welcome to St Helena Hospice who cared for Viv (and Rachel) so well in the final months of her life. Viv's story is on the St Helena ite https://www.sthelena.org.uk/news-and-stories/stories/living-as-well-as-i-can

I will remember Viv as a truly courageous woman. Her sense of humour made me laugh out loud. I feel privileged to have met her.
